My posts were clear that these verses alone are not the whole picture and there is more the Bible has to say which does much to clarify the issue. It wont fit into a short post on YouTube & this involves no “absurd mental contortions” at all. Your dismissive presumption has nothing to do with taking God’s word “at face value”, because you won’t take the time to look at the whole face, nor acknowledge that there are deeper considerations which don’t conform to short sighted and shallow thinking.
Your bible was written not by Apostles but by a King. A King who’s interest was his own, not the people’s. Whenever you find a “Bible” written by Jesus let us know ok? In the meantime I will listen to reason, not to spooky bedtime stories.Reason tells me you do not have to be “religious” to be a good person. It is not your job to “save” anyone, because there is nothing to be saved from. You preach an imperfect, jealous, savage god. IMOP we are God, all of us. We can be better than we have been.
YES WE CAN and YES WE DID!!!
This was the first video I watched of Barack Obama and it changed my mind about America! I voted for him and I hope that all of you nay sayers just go back to the Bible like my evangelist Texan mother did and embrace the Father and BELIEVE.Just believe and give Obama a chance. I am a Northern spiritualist.
Mom and I decided to GIVE HIM A CHANCE GOD CHOSE HIM! Bless you all for your opinions
Lets start to live together and have some hope instead of fears.

it’s nice that you take the time to do the absurd mental contortions necessary to reconcile the obvious and direct contradiction of these verses. personally i’d rather take “god’s” written word at face value
There is no contradiction as the Bible’s exhortation to being obedient to authorities is not given without qualification.
It is our duty to submit to proper authority. It is also our duty to obey God rather than man if mans laws are unjust and/or persecute people for obeying God. Etc.
We are to obey the authorities, but God is the highest authority. This is not contradictory. I would have thought this was not difficult to understand.
“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God” ~ Romans 13:1
It is worth reading the rest of this passage in its context and other verses which relate both to submission and resisting authority.
It is safe to say the Bible does not teach an unqualified obedience to government.
This is one of the most important speeches of his career. He also had a podcast in 2006 as a senator. He would brief his constituents (or subscribers) on the news of the moment and then offer his perspective & opinions. I’m sure he was at least partially laying the groundwork for his 2008 run, but he did it in a careful, nuanced, and narrative sort of way. Worth checking out.

Wolf in sheeps clothing?
Bizarre strategy. When cornered, call the opponent a fairy tale villain?
How can obama give a speech like this when he was going to church and sit through some of Jeremiah Wright preachings. Rev. Wright should of been preaching good not hate shame on Rev. Wright, bring hate into a church. shame on Obama not leaving that church sooner then he did. Is Obama a wolf in sheep clothing?
First off faith and politics do not mix. One is of God and the other evil. Politics do not have your best interest in mind. They are enslaving you. God is against governments, all governments. All of mankind was created free. It is all of mankind’s birthright. All the USA presidents have been from blue blood. They were all aristocrats and so is Obama. Want a king to enslave you? Read the Patriot Act. It is an evil document just like the word patriotism.
You need to research it pal. The separation of church and state was a “letter” written by Benjamin Franklin to “protect the church” from the state. before you call someone an idiot, make sure you have the facts.
I read the transcript of this speech so as to get a full contextual and unbias opinion of it and found that as a Christian there is nothing offense about it.
The crux of what he’s saying is to stand up for what you believe in and be aware that anything taken to the extreme becomes error.
Finding balance & commonality is the key to life and there’s nothing offensive about that.
Obama is probably the only politician in history to ever keep it real on a religious discussion, even when he himself is a religious person. You dumb motherfuckers dissing Obama over this video are so damn ignorant and racist it bleeds over the words you type into your computer. Even my college sociology teacher showed us this video IN CLASS, not because he wanted us to vote for Obama, but because he acknowledges that Obama is the only politician to have a clear & concise discussion on religion

Religious people are crazy. Fanatics sucks. Christians and Muslim are the worst people on the face of this earth. Oh, and fuck the jews too.

I thought I recalled a scripture saying to respect the government and its laws. Why would God tell us to uphold something “evil”?
November 23rd, 2008 at 3:31 am
do you agree with everything your best friend says? Do you believe and agree with everything your cowboy president says? I didn’t think so.
