“Faith doesn’t mean that you don’t have doubts. You come to church precicely because you are of this world not apart from it. You need to embrace Christ precisely because you have sins to wash away and it was because of this new found truth that I was able to affirm my faith…my doubts didn’t magically disappear but kneeling beneath that cross I felt that I heard God’s spirit beckoning me. I submitted myself to his will. And dedicated myself to discovering his truth.”

I dont see why people just dont respect the first amendment. If we *actually* separate church and state, the U.S.A would be a better place.

    Unbelievable!

He contends that Church and State remain separate! How dare he? How dare he try to find a commonality to unite us rather than take the fanatical tactic of instilling prejudice and religious discrimination!

Come on people now. Smile on your brother. Everybody get together, try to love one another right now.

YOUR BOOK PROCLAIMS THIS IS THE NEW COMMANDMENT!

It is amazing how people can listen to the same speech and come to completely opposite conclusions. He gives clear testimony “kneeling beneath the cross” “sins to wash away” “submitted to His will” “affirmed his faith” “I felt that I heard God beckoning me”.
    made a choice

It is unusual wording for him. He rarely speaks of United States Citizens as “them” in any of his other speaches as is the case here. It’s a strangly removed speech for me. But now that I look at the date of the speech it just shows me how he much he has grown into the leadership role over the last few years. Granted, he is not overt about a direct personal relationship with Jesus Christ but for that matter many Catholics do not either and we clearly don’t question their faith. Or do we?

This shows me that he has been telling people since 2006 that he is a saved, born-again Christian.

hmm I don’t know if I would go that far… but after watching this, I do have serious doubts about his faith. Does he believe in Jesus Christ or does he believe in the “African American religious tradition” and it’s power for social change?

Wow. This shows - to me - that he really is an atheist. No doubt in my mind.

    Hurray!
