December 25th, 2008 Posted in Uncategorized

Barack Obama discusses the importance of The Separation of Church and State in a pluralistic society.

To compare his views on this all-important issue to those of John McCain (and others) with an incisive analysis by Jon Stewart, John Oliver, and John Hodgman, see http://www.yoism.org/?q=node/377

So THIS is why there are some christian-nitwits who claim Obama is some sort of antichrist that’s been predicted in the bible.

  3. rocketman768 Says:

That is probably the smartest and most profound thing I have ever heard Obama say. I’m so glad I voted for him.

Perhaps someone can explain to me why so many Christians are so adamant about abortions, but they don’t seem to recognize that their whole faith is based on the sacrifice of the innocent (Jesus) for the guilty?

Personally, I don’t believe that the innocent should have to pay for the sins of the guilty. In fact, that sounds rather barbaric to me.

    Just wondering.

religion does not deserve respect, ok then lets respect child molesters too. first century medieval superstition can not and should not be respected, of course anyone can do whatever they want but you can’t expect me to bend over for you because your superstition effects my life, it is on my face wherever I go, you keep rubbing it to my face so you will get my mockery on your face.

You can be religious and still believe in separation of church and state. He’s not condemning religion, he’s condemning the use of religion in laws and debate.

And if you read my previous comment, please don’t call ANYONE stupid for believing what they believe. Because by doing that, you’re just doing exactly what Obama is condemning in this speech. Please respect other’s beliefs. Calling people stupid will just piss your opponent off, not make a point or change anything.

  8. ferrariModenas Says:

Anyone believes in religion is stupid by default

  9. ferrariModenas Says:

I have a huger respect for Obama after I watched this video, I think he has to play the religion game to get elected he has no other choice

  10. zebendyone Says:

Um. I don’t believe in the Bible either, but let’s not call people “stupid” for believing in it. Because you’re doing exactly what this speech is condemning.

This is kind of a weak forum for adequate explanation of ANYTHING one has to discuss.
But, as far as my statement goes, I think you misunderstand. GOD never says slavery(etc…) is ok and HE never changed HIS mind. HE simply uses one wicked nation to judge another wicked nation. Several times in history HE has used a MORE wicked nation to cause a LESS wicked nation to turn their hearts to HIM. Examples would be Babylon & Rome conquering Israel. Also Egypt enslaving the descendants of Joseph.

Well, here’s a bit more detail on the Lot story. It’s contradictory. Yes, contradictory. The daughters could not have believed that there were no men in the world. They had just come from Tzo’ar where there would have been plenty of men. Abraham, their great-uncle was situated about a day’s walk away. I’m thinking Lot kinda changed the story a bit. Which is why it may have happened, but I’m thinking not quite for the reasons stated. I’m just sayin’.

So seeing how you brought that up tell me where they were living at the time of this story. Just a min ago i read the story again, so please tell me how that biblical STORY supports the evil that took place?

And about that marsupial please e-mail me you just happen to use the strongest argument against the flood, but good thing there is a answer, but i can’t post links on youtube.

  17. chirpieguy Says:

Oi, not territories and districts… he meant to say states instead of primaries because in reality, 50 of 57 primaries thus far were states they had visited thus far. See? Even I’m slipping up. ^_^

  18. chirpieguy Says:

If you can give a good reason why we’re allowed to ignore parts of the bible when the bible itself says ‘it’s all good’, I’m all ears.

Let’s start with the man Lot. His wife was turned into a pillar of salt for being materialistic. But when his daughters get him drunk and sleep with him to get pregnant (since they think they’re the last people on the planet) it’s a-ok. That doesn’t seem inspired OR beneficial.

  19. chirpieguy Says:

“just because there is a store in a book does not mean that said book supports the act.”

Wait a minute, you’re saying thanks to the second half, a good portion of the first half doesn’t matter, even though the bible itself says all of it is inspired and beneficial.

I went to church for quite a few years am an looking for reason to go back, since a good portion of my family are looking down on me at this point. (One of those side effects of them being faithful I guess…)

  20. chirpieguy Says:

If this flood happened as you say it did, how did the marsupials get to Australia?

  21. chirpieguy Says:

The items you listed can be tested and proven with the scientific process.

I’m not saying god doesn’t exist, but since you’re making the claim, the burden of proof falls to you. Simple really.

  22. chirpieguy Says:

Christians pray for god to come back everyday. If Obama wins, and god ‘comes back’ as a result, you should be grateful to the rest of us for voting him into office.

  23. chirpieguy Says:

It was 57 states. And as it turns out, this was with including territories and districts. He dropped that part of the sentence off which is where the mistake comes from. No biggie.
