Funny thing is the way we measure prosperity (GDP) is all wrong - we should measure the common man’s ability to pay his way in life, his percentage income for rent, food, gas. If we were to have this info available, we would see that things are getting worse, not better. for at least the past 20 years.

At least with Obama, he cares about these things. And people love that.

I see problems with both a capitalist system as well as a socialist one.

It’s the same in ANY political system. My girlfriend grew up under communism and she knows all about people seeking their own interests! The secret is to minimise the damage caused by people seeking their own interests - I’m sure we agree here. Big and even modest governments all help create powerful people. A huge amount millionaires would never have become so rich in a REAL free market since a common way of making money is through copyright enforced through government.

But as a political human being I am aware that I am doomed to life in a state with other human beings as mankind is a state-building kind of animal [to refer to good old Aristotle], as I am neither a wild animal nor a god that I would not need the state in my autarchy! So, as I have to lie with other humans I am trying to make the world I live in sufferable and comfortable to me. So I have to check, command and overbear the free-market…
